The theme of the Prix de Rome Architecture 2022 is Healing Sites. At a time when labour inequality and climate issues have resulted in a demand for change, this edition of the Prix de Rome Architecture calls to rethink and redesign spatial practices. Architecture has been complicit in establishing the ecocidal legacies of capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism. How can architects, urbanists, and landscape architects reflect upon and rearticulate their working methods in order to undo these legacies?
The international professional jury of the Prix de Rome (Carson Chan, Alessandra Covini, Afaina de Jong, Jan Jongert, and Dirk Sijmons, chaired by Syb Groeneveld) has selected four nominees out of 53 anonymous entries for the shortlist of the Prix de Rome Architecture 2022. The nominees are Arna Mačkić, Dividual (Andrea Bit and Maciej Wieczorkowski), Lesia Topolnyk, and Studio KIWI (Kim Kool and Willemijn van Manen). For this publication the architects were interviewed by authors Marieke Berkers and Mark Minkjan. Ola Hassanain, who leads a critical spatial practice as a visual artist and trained architect, wrote the keynote essay.
The Prix de Rome is the oldest prize in the Netherlands for architects younger than 35. This year the prize is organized by the Mondriaan Fund in collaboration with the Creative Industries Fund NL and Het Nieuwe Instituut, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

Het thema van de Prix de Rome Architectuur 2022 is Healing Sites. In een tijd waarin klimaatvraagstukken en arbeidsongelijkheden om verandering vragen zet de Prix de Rome Architectuur 2022 aan tot het heroverwegen en herontwerpen van ruimtelijke praktijken. Als gevolg van het kapitalisme, kolonialisme en imperialisme zijn ecosystemen op grote schaal beschadigd, vernietigd of verloren gegaan. Architectuur is daar medeplichtig aan. Hoe reflecteren architecten, stedenbouwkundigen en landschapsarchitecten hierop en hoe kunnen zij hun werkwijze herformuleren om deze erfenis te ontkrachten?
De internationale vakjury van de Prix de Rome (Carson Chan, Alessandra Covini, Afaina de Jong, Jan Jongert en Dirk Sijmons, met als juryvoorzitter Syb Groeneveld) heeft vier genomineerden geselecteerd uit 53 anonieme inzendingen voor de shortlist van de Prix de Rome Architectuur 2022. De genomineerden zijn Arna Mačkić, Dividual (Andrea Bit en Maciej Wieczorkowski), Lesia Topolnyk, en Studio KIWI (Kim Kool en Willemijn van Manen). Voor deze publicatie werden de architecten geïnterviewd door auteurs Marieke Berkers en Mark Minkjan. Ola Hassanain, die als beeldend kunstenaar en opgeleid architect een kritische ruimtelijke praktijk leidt, schreef het keynote essay.
De Prix de Rome is de oudste prijs in Nederland voor architecten onder de 35 jaar. De prijs wordt dit jaar georganiseerd door het Mondriaan Fonds in samenwerking met het Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie en Het Nieuwe Instituut, in opdracht van het ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap.
